Thirty-five individuals representing 40 local agencies attended the Henry County Community Foundation Grants Workshop on August 12th. Grants Committee Chair Dick Myers reviewed the guidelines and indicated grant submissions are due Friday, August 28th at noon. He also explained a representative from the Grants Committee would be calling to do a phone interview or site visit before presenting the grant proposal at the grants committee meeting.

Myers indicated those organizations who have previously received grants the report form must be on file at the Henry County Community Foundation before applying for a new grant. Program Director Jennifer Fox added, "Our grant recipients have done a great job providing information. However, as a reminder our website contains the online grant application and report form."

Executive Director Jerry Schaeffer indicated, "Due to the economic downturn, we are asking you to really think about what you are asking for and collaborate with other organizations where possible." Myers emphasized, "Don't shoot for the moon. Please be accurate and ask for what you need, not more than what you need. Keep in mind, much of the money for these grants came from Henry County so try to do business (obtain quotes) in Henry County." Community Grants are funded by donations to the Unrestricted Fund. Myers added, "The Grants Committee members are stewards to someone else's money. These people are very serious and all business. I am happy to say, we haven't had changes in the Grants Committee membership because they love what they do."

The Henry County Community Foundation, Inc. evaluates all aspects of community well-being - arts and culture, community development, education, environment, health and human services - and awards grants to select projects and programs. The community foundation also does matching grants. The Henry County Community Foundation appreciates the generosity of donors who have made gifts to the Unrestricted Fund for Community Grants and urges continued support.

To improve grant-making and better meet the increasing needs of Henry County, an increase in the assets of the Unrestricted Fund for Community Grants is needed. Tax exempt donations of any size can be sent to the Henry County Community Foundation at 700 S. Memorial Drive, New Castle, IN 47362. For inquiries, call 529-2235 or email info@henrycountycf.org.
