Description:

This scholarship is given in honor of the respected and loved Judge John H. Morris. Born January 28, 1892, he received his early education in New Castle, graduating in 1908. Judge Morris received his undergraduate degree from Indiana University and went on to Harvard Law School. He started the practice of law in 1915. Following two years of service in the U.S. Army he returned to his law practice in 1927. In 1928 he was elected Circuit Court Judge and served in that capacity until 1955. He then returned to law practice until his death in 1963. Judge Morris also served the community as a member of the Masonic, Elks, and Moose lodges, the Library Board and he served as Director of Citizens State Bank.

This scholarship shall be awarded to a Henry County High School graduating senior as a freshman, but not paid until they have maintained a 3.0 through their freshman year at Indiana University or any of its regional campuses, OR to the previous scholarship winner who is now attending an accredited college or university. Previous scholarship winner may reapply each year up to a total of four years. College students must maintain a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale (B average).

To be used for tuition, room and board, and educational expenses.

  2. Enrolled at Indiana University
  3. Community involvement
  4. Extra-curricular activities in High School

SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED IF:

1. Application is incomplete (missing any of the above attachments)

2. Application is not submitted by the due date: February 3, 2020, 5pm

If student does NOT attend a university or college, all money awarded shall be reimbursed to the scholarship fund.

Payments will be paid in one installment at the beginning of the fall semester after the student has turned in a thank you note to the Foundation Office.

IMPORTANT:  The Henry County Community Foundation will not send checks to the college choice until a thank you has been received at the foundation, addressed to the individual provided on the award letter.  The foundation will mail the thank you note/card to the appropriate individual.
