September 28, 1932 — July 24, 2025
Bonnie Lou Myers, 92, of New Castle, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at Addison Place in New Castle. She was born on September 28, 1932, in New Castle, Indiana, a daughter of the late Emil and Ruby (Calvert) Reeves.
Raised on the family farm in Henry County, Bonnie, her dad’s side-kick, loved the farm, and got up early to help her dad milk the cows and do farm chores. She had a pet lamb named Ferdinand, who became Ferdy to her family, and a loving memory was created that brought laughter and joy to her and her family. Bonnie, a 1950 graduate of Mt Summit High School, always proudly spoke of being a Mt. Summit Eagle. She attended and graduated from Indiana Business College.
Bonnie and Dick Myers married October 7th, 1956 and enjoyed 61 years together. They enjoyed traveling, taking their family on cruises, a trip to Hawaii and any other place necessary to support any family events. She faithfully supported her husband’s long hours as they continued to build and grow the family business, Myers Furniture and Appliances. Bonnie and Dick were proud supporters of the Henry County Community Foundation. They championed many local projects, and Bonnie continued on their legacy long after Dick’s passing by replicating his generosity.
Bonnie was a longtime devoted member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, where she served faithfully as church treasurer for 20 years and was active in the Dorcas Circle. She was also a dedicated community volunteer, giving her time for many years to the Henry Community Health’s Hospital Auxiliary, the Hospital’s Gift Shop, and the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame.
Bonnie had many interests and hobbies. She enjoyed sewing, reading, sending thoughtful cards and working crossword puzzles. A true sports enthusiast, Bonnie loved attending New Castle Trojan sporting events of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as enjoying the Colts, Cubs, Yankees, IU, and Butler sports on TV. She was a proud supporter of New Castle Football Team and attended games, rain or shine. She supported the New Castle Band Boosters and always cheered on her teams with enthusiasm, including March Madness and selecting her bracket picks for the NCAA tournament.
Family was at the heart of everything Bonnie did. Her greatest joy came from time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, who were truly her pride and joy. A servant at heart, Bonnie was a wonderful cook, and could be found in the kitchen making and delivering chocolate chip cookies, Rice Krispy treats, or brownies around the pool, or making countless lunches for her family.
Bonnie is survived by two daughters, Brenda (Jack) Armstrong, Penny York (Sam Hall); grandchildren, Brandon-BJ (Megan) York, Bloomington, IN, Kyle (Jessica) York, Stacey (Zach) Tolle, and Jason (Kristi) Armstrong; great grandchildren JT, Lily and Claire York, Beau, Shepherd and Katie York, Lucy and Lincoln Armstrong and Remy and Charlie Tolle; brother-in-law, Jim Myers; nephews, Todd (Colleen) Myers, and Tim (Sarah) Myers, Dan (Amy) Smith, Randy Smith; and niece, Lynn (Greg) Olson.
In addition to her parents, Bonnie was preceded in death by her husband in 2017, Richard “Dick” W. Myers, her two sisters; Maxine Warfel and Donna Smith-Cronk, nephew, Larry Warfel and niece, Carolyn Warfel.
The family would like to honor and thank the kind, loving people that cared for our mother and grandmother during her time at Addison Place. The nurses and caregivers are an extraordinary group of people.
