Donald Emerson Coomes

Donald Emerson Coomes of Washington, IN passed away Feb. 24, 2018 at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Indianapolis following major heart surgery. He had been in poor health for over a year.

He was born in New Castle on June 30, 1945 to Robert Donald Coomes and Joan Young Grunden.

Don graduated from Walter P. Chrysler High School in 1963. He attended Ball State University prior to enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1965. Don was a member of Sacred Heart Church of Southbury, CT.

The majority of his career was working for Philips Electronics North America as Human Resource Manager overseeing the transfer of Foreign Nationals and their families returning to the U.S.

Following his retirement, he was licensed to sell Real Estate for William Raveis Agency in Southbury, CT.

He loved playing golf, reading, attending Classic Car Auctions, spending time with his classmates at their luncheons and spending time with his great nieces.

Besides his parents, he was proceeded in death by his Great Uncle and Aunt, Raymond and Mildred Crim.

He is survived by one sister, Elizabeth (Robert) McLane of Washington, IN, a nephew Michael (Khara) Bond, four great nieces, Claire, Karinne, Kaitlynn, and Khari of Newburgh, IN, Jeanne Coomes of Southbury, CT, an Aunt, Virginia Ross of Cape Town, South Africa, and several cousins.

Visitation will be from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm Wednesday Feb 28, 2018, at Macer-Hall Funeral Home and Cremation Services with military honors being conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.

In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions be made to the Class of 1963 Named Fund.

Burial will take place at a later date.
