Dorothy Mary Dickerson, 92, of New Castle, passed away on January 1, 2024, at the Willows of New Castle. She was born on May 31, 1931, in Zanesville, OH, a daughter to the late Edward and Greta (Hobbs) Hart.
For over 60 years, Dorothy served as an accountant and was a partner with Beard Peterson and Stahlbush Accounting located in Muncie. She was a member of the American Society of Women’s Accountants and the Indiana Society of Accountants where she also served as an officer. She and her husband, Gene, whom she married in 1974, enjoyed traveling to NSA Conventions that were held in California, Florida, Alaska, Chicago, and twice in Hawaii. Prior to her accounting career, Dorothy worked at the Boy Scouts of America in Elkhart, Muncie Public Library, and International Harvester. Dorothy enjoyed square dancing and visits to Beef and Boards but she loved chocolates, coffee, and reading her newspaper. Since 1974, Dorothy has been a member of the First Bible Free Will Baptist Church.
Dorothy is survived by her sister, Jo Ann Stoltz of Portland, IN; daughter, Roberta Stahlbush of New Castle; grandchildren, John Owens of Mebane, NC, Michelle Thornburg of New Castle, Autumn Gibson of FL, Aleigha Jane (Darrell) Brown of Anderson; 3 great-grandchildren; step-children, Carol Madison and Nancy Dickerson both of Pensacola, FL, Greg (Rose) Dickerson of New Castle, Susie (Mike) Wantz of New Castle; step-grandchildren, Tisha Clayborn, Derek Madison, Curtis Madison, Bradley Wantz and Christopher Wantz; step-great-grandchildren, Taylor, Mia, Ethan, Evan and Mateo; step great-great-granddaughter, Tamia; sisters-in-law, Billie Hart of Winchester and Mary Jo Hart of Jasper; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Gene Dickerson, son, Jeffrey Stahlbush; daughter, Theresa Abell; siblings, Edward (Billie) Hart Jr., Bernadine Harrell, Jessie (Noel) Foreman, John (Mary Jo) Hart; step grandchildren, Ben Shallenberger and Jessica Wantz; brother and sister-in-law, Roger and Freda Painter.
Services will be held at 4:00pm Friday, January 5, 2024 at Hinsey Brown Funeral Service in New Castle. Visitation will be from 3:00pm until time of service on Friday at the funeral home. Inurnment will take place at Fountain Park Cemetery located in Winchester, IN. Memorial contributions may be given to the Jessica Wantz 4-H Scholarship Fund C/O Henry County Community Foundation or the First Bible Free Will Baptist Church.
