Gary A. Marcum, 84, of New Castle, passed away Wednesday, June 5, at Stonebrooke Rehabilitation Center following a brief illness.

Gary was the youngest so n of the late Ruth L. and Oscar Marcum.

He attended New Castle High School and took extreme pride in his years of serving the citizens of New Castle as a police officer, city councilman, utility office manager, and cemetery groundskeeper. He worked several years at Jack’s Donuts, carrying on the family legacy. He was most proud, however, of the term he spent as the Mayor of New Castle where he made many lifelong friends.

Survivors include a son, Jamey (Terri) Marcum of New Castle, five grandchildren, Keith (Eliza) of Lake Oswego, OR, Alyssa (Bryan) Marcum of Washington D.C., Zach Marcum of Greenfield, Jordan (Cameron) Goodin and Logan Marcum both of New Castle, seven great-grandchildren, Gwen and Fiona Marcum of Lake Oswego, OR, Evelynn Marcum of Middletown, Colten and Camren Marcum of Greenfield, Ava Norris, Grant and Colson Goodin of New Castle and several nieces and nephews.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Gary Joe Marcum, and his four brothers, Jack, Bobby, Richard, and Oscar (Junior) Marcum.

Funeral services will be Monday, June 10, 2024, at 4 p.m. at Rose City Funeral Home. Family and friends may call from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. prior to the service. Cremation will follow with burial at a future date.
