Henry County Community Foundation Awards over $104,000 in Community Grants through the Choose Henry Flex Fund

The Henry County Community Foundation (HCCF) board of directors has awarded $104,160 to 22 organizations serving Henry County residents.  The purpose of these grants is to assist local nonprofits to promote and support social services, arts and culture, health and recreation, civic affairs, and the educational needs of Henry County residents.

The grants were made out of the Choose Henry Flex Fund, which was established by generous donors across Henry County to help address local needs and enhance our community. Every dollar donated to the Choose Henry Flex Fund makes a difference.  The needs in the county are always changing, making the Choose Henry Flex Fund an essential part of our community.

The following grants are awarded through the Choose Henry Flex Fund, supporting the following categories:

CULTURAL AFFAIRS:

Beautify Knightstown, Inc.: $2,296 for marketing and promotional materials for the Makers Market.

CAST (Guyer Opera House): $1,200 for a scene shop toolkit.

Henry County Friends of Memorial Park: $6,000 for renovation to the basketball and tennis courts.

Henry County Historical Society: $14,000 for annex and interurban station preservation.

Knightstown Main Street: $1,500 for the Summer Concert Series

New Castle Little League: $7,000 for replace dugouts on upper field.

Preserve Henry County, Inc.: $15,000 for historic window restoration to the Wilson’s Grocery building in Spiceland.

SOCIAL SERVICES:

Believe and Achieve Mentoring: $4,000 for marketing and promotional materials for the program.

Blue River Valley Church of the Nazarene: $800 for the Helping Hands Foster Ministry.

First Assembly of God: $1,759 for new freezers for Shepherd’s Door Food Pantry.

Interlocal Community Action Program: $3,280 for Safe Sleep for Henry County Babies.

LifeStream Services: $3,875 for adult guardianship program support.

Raintree Habitat for Humanity: $3,000 for a community garden.

Stacy’s Sharing Closet: $3,000 to stock the community closet at Knightstown Intermediate School.

Victory Lane Camp: $2,240 for a media toolkit.

HEALTH AND MEDICAL:

Little Red Door Cancer Agency: $3,000 for the Nutritional Supplements program.

Shenandoah High School: $5,000 to implement the “Sources of Strength” suicide prevention program.

CIVIC AFFAIRS:

Charles A. Beard Schools: $5,000 for Enhancing Music Education in Knightstown.

Greensboro Volunteer Fire Department: $8,800 for new turnout gear.

Kennard Police Department: 2,331 for radios, Taser devices, and stop sticks.

New Castle-Henry County Animal Shelter: $10,841 for kennel renovation and repair.

Union School Corporation: $238 for shelving and storage for the Rocket Closet for students.
