Nina Louise McCall, 95, of Mt. Summit went to be with the Lord on December 23, 2016 and was greeted by her husband, Eugene “Bud” Wade McCall, and her son, Ronnie. Nina was born October 8, 1921 in Henry County to Cecil and Cleo (Simmons) Davis, the oldest of eight children.
Nina was the epitome of “Mother”, raising her seven children was the most important thing in the world to her, and she did it well. Even in her final days on this earth, she still wanted her babies close to her. No matter what your age, you were still her baby. She always had a kiss and a hug for them, and even for those that were not her own, but that had been taken under her motherly wing.
She was a wonderful cook and always prepared a spread fit for a king, enough for 10 at her supper table every evening as one child always walked down to bring grandpa up for supper as well. This woman raised seven children in a two bedroom home! It was FULL of love! Never has there been a closer family growing up together. The love she showed to them, they learned to give to each other as well and have all grown into the most loving people possible.
Nina was very active in the Democratic Party alongside her husband. She also attended Mt. Summit Christian Church. Her caretakers at Heritage House, Addison House and Henry County Hospital would even comment on how sweet she was, always thanking them for every little thing they did for her. The family would like to extend their gratitude for all the caregivers and the love they showed her.
Nina’s children, who will miss her greatly are Julia Ann Bertram, Steven Wade (Casteen) McCall, James Dewey McCall, Bruce Hiram (Elana) McCall, Anita Cheryl Current and Michael David (Starry) McCall; siblings, Norman Davis of Richmond and Beverly Abshire of Oxford, Ohio, who is the youngest and was born on Nina’s birthday 21 years later. Nina also leaves behind 19 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, 13 great-great-grandchildren and one on the way.
In addition to her parents, she will be joining her siblings, Carroll Davis, Kathleen Swarm, Carolyn Retherford, Keith Davis and Dale Davis.
A celebration on Nina’s life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at Mt. Summit Christian Church with Ben French officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Summit Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, December 27 at the Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle.
