Phyllis Jean Carpenter, age 70 of New Castle, passed away Monday, March 14, 2016 at IU Ball Memorial Hospital. She was born April 26, 1945 in New Castle to the late Walter Eugene and Mary (Gard) Brown.
She was a 1963 graduate of Tipton High School and had attended Amber’s Beauty School in Muncie in 1966-1967. Phyllis belonged to the Wheelin-Dealers Car Club. She worked at Clayton’s Garden Center in North Webster for over 17 years, and she had also worked at Tom and Vi’s restaurant east of Hagerstown.
Survivors include her husband, Ronald L. Carpenter, of New Castle, whom she married May 5, 1968; two daughters, Staci Lynn (Dave) Manning of Warren, IN and Rhonda Lee (Dave) Jenkins of Columbus, IN; three grandchildren, Joshua Scott, Scottie J. Jenkins both of Columbus, IN, and Latishia Carpenter of Warren, IN; half brother, Joseph V. Brown of Shelbyville; two stepsisters, Connie (Gene) Roberts of Shelbyville and Gloria (Lynn) Guettner of Kingston, TN; two cousins, Leslie Gard of Dallas, GA and Larry Brown of New Castle; a nephew, Forrest Carpenter of Indianapolis, and a sister-in-law, Nelda Carpenter of Springport.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepmother, Mary Jeanette Donica; stepfather, Franklin Nation; uncle, Vernon Brown.
Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 18, 2016 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Reverend Dale Reynolds officiating. Entombment will follow at Green Hills Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to the Henry County Cancer Society, P.O.
