Charles and Bernice Popplewell Scholarship

Requirements: 2.5 GPA, Education or related Field, financial need, 4 year degree

Description:

Charlie Popplewell was a graduate of New Castle High School in the 1940’s and extended his education at Ball State College where he graduated with a degree in elementary education.  He taught in many of the elementary schools in New Castle while studying to get his administrative degree.  He became a popular elementary school principal and served the New Caste Community School System for many years.  Charlie was also involved in the Masonic Lodge and New Castle Noon Optimists.

The scholarship is made available to graduating seniors or graduates of New Castle High School who are pursuing a 4-year degree in education or a related field.  Scholarship may be renewable.  Required 2.5 GPA or higher and financial need will be considered.  A selection committee will review applications.

To be used for tuition, room and board, and educational expenses.

 REQUIRED ATTACHMENTS:

1.         General Application

2.         Personal Data Sheet  (may attach resume or additional page as needed)

3.         Financial Questionnaire

4.         Transcript

5.         College Acceptance Letter

6.         Two Letters of Recommendation (from High School Principal, High School Guidance Counselor, Teacher, Minister, Employer, etc.)    

 SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED IF:

1. Application is incomplete (missing any of the above attachments)

2. Application is not submitted by the due date: February 3, 2020, 5pm

If student does NOT attend a university or college, all money awarded shall be reimbursed to the scholarship fund.

Payments will be paid in one installment at the beginning of the fall semester after the student has turned in a thank you note to the Foundation Office.

IMPORTANT:  The Henry County Community Foundation will not send checks to the college choice until a thank you has been received at the foundation, addressed to the individual provided on the award letter.  The foundation will mail the thank you note/card to the appropriate individual.
