Requirements: 10 Yr 4-H Member, Field of Science, 2 or 4 year college, Henry County resident, renewable
Description:
Jessica was known for her love of 4-H and her intense interest in science particularly how it related to animals. Jessica attended New Castle Chrysler High School for two years, and graduated from the Indiana Academy for Science, Math and Humanities, in 2009. As she entered her freshman year at New College of Florida in Sarasota, she immediately took as many courses as she could, and was mentoring at a local middle school. At the end of the first semester, her grades reflected that she loved where she was and what she was doing.
Before she returned to school to start her second semester, she and her younger brother and two friends decided to go sledding down the hill at Memorial Park like she had done many times before. But this time it was different. As the tube picked up speed, it slid sideways out of control and slammed into the concrete wall of a pump house. Jessica was rushed to the hospital, and transferred to Methodist hospital, where she later passed away. She had asked to be an organ donor when she got her driver’s license, and her wishes were honored, helping several other people to have a better life.
This scholarship was established by those who knew her and those who loved her to offer financial aid to another student who has a ten year history with 4-H and is choosing to enter into any field of science in a two-or-four year college or university.
