The Henry County Community Foundation’s Choose Henry Flex Fund has become a cornerstone of community support.

Debi Ware, Grants Committee Chair, has witnessed firsthand the positive ripple effects of this flexible fund, dedicating nearly 15 years of volunteer work to the Foundation and its mission to help where the needs are the greatest.

Debi fondly remembers the fund’s role in bringing Ivy Tech Community College to Henry County, “Accomplishing the science wing, raising the funds, and seeing how it has grown and continues to be successful today is amazing!”

Another impactful project close to her heart is helping God’s Grain Bin, a vital community organization. “Seeing how much they’re doing,” Debi shared, “feels good to step up alongside them.”

Debi is thankful to be a part of this great work both through volunteering her time and through being a donor herself. She emphasized, “Dan and I have been blessed in our lives. By giving back to the community through Choose Henry, we know that our gifts will last forever. And even though our gifts haven’t been big, we know they’ve added up to make a difference.”

Debi appreciates the adaptability of Choose Henry. “Our community needs are always changing,” she acknowledged, “Choose Henry is an important piece in helping to meet those needs forever.”

Now, with the new matching grant from Lilly Endowment Inc., there is even more potential for the reach of the fund. Debi is excited to see where it may lead, “I envision us on the grants committee being able to do bigger things with more dollars. We won’t forget about the smaller needs and grants. But this match will open it for us to be able to do so much more.”

While Debi greatly values her experience as the Grants Committee Chair, she is most proud of the other volunteers involved. She reflected, “Being Grants Chair has been one of the best things for me, but I am so proud of the volunteers who give their time to make sure we are being good stewards of the donor’s gifts.”

Ultimately, she acknowledges the true heroes: “If it wasn’t for the donors who give to Choose Henry, we couldn’t do what we do.”
