On January 19th, Tri Elementary held their first Family Fun Night. Approximately 140 parents and students returned back to school on Monday night for a Sports themed learning experience. We were proud to be sponsors of this event through a Henry County Community Foundation TASC Grant. Parents learned about the new Indiana Academic Math Standards, along with playing math related games with their children. Participants were also treated with a dinner at the school.
Kindergarten teacher and Family and Community Involvement Committee Member, Jenny Kinser, was pleased with the outcome of the event and said, “Tonight was our math night/sports extravaganza at Tri. It was fun, well attended, and a good chance to have our parents in the classroom playing games with their kids. Our first try was a success!” Plans are now in the works for a second Family Fun Night on February 24th, with the focus being on Language Arts.
Composed of students from the five county high schools, the TASC grants committee meets four times a year to evaluate grant submissions relating to youth and educational programs. Monies are awarded from the Unrestricted Fund for Community Grants. Grant guidelines and applications are available at www.henrycountycf.org/tasc.
Bill Bergmann, retired teacher and Foundation volunteer from Knightstown, is the TASC Committee Chair. Susan Falck-Neal, Henry County Community Foundation Board Member, also serves as an advisor to the youth grants committee.
