Chuck and Vickie Rhodes believe that giving doesn’t have to be grand to be meaningful.
“If we give to a scholarship, those dollars support students,” they shared. “If we give to the Choose Henry Flex Fund, those dollars strengthen nonprofits across the county, including here in Knightstown.” Their philosophy: you don’t have to be rich to donate, and small gifts can add up to a significant impact.
That belief has been woven throughout their lives. Both graduates of Knightstown High School’s Class of ’71, Chuck and Vickie, returned to their hometown after college to raise their two sons, Chris and Kyle. Over the decades, their steady service became a hallmark of their lives in Knightstown.
Vickie’s story is one of devotion in many forms. She was a stay-at-home mom, then spent 17 years as the administrative secretary at Knightstown High School. For 30 years, she’s been a fixture in the gym, faithfully keeping the scorebook for basketball. And for 36 years, she served her neighbors as a certified EMT, often stepping in during their most critical moments. Her tireless commitment was honored when she was named Optimist of the Year and Citizen of the Year.
Chuck’s service has been just as steadfast. For more than 30 years, he walked the streets of Knightstown as a mail carrier, but his impact reached far beyond his route. He coached Little League baseball, recorded high school football games for nearly three decades, and served on the Knightstown Town Board. Today, even in retirement, he continues to give back through the Knightstown Cemetery Board and the Veterans’ Memorial Board.
Vickie’s time working at the Henry County Community Foundation deepened their understanding of philanthropy. She witnessed how small gifts could multiply, growing into meaningful support for students, nonprofits, and community needs. It became clear to both Chuck and Vickie that giving wasn’t reserved for the wealthy; it was something everyone could do.
That perspective inspired them to create their own fund. They established the Chuck and Vickie Rhodes Named Fund within the Choose Henry Flex Fund. This step ensures their dollars will continue to support the causes closest to their hearts for generations to come.
“For us, giving has a purpose,” they said. “It’s about strengthening the connections that make our community feel like home.”
Their fund is a natural extension of a lifetime of service, spanning from mail routes and basketball scorebooks to emergency calls and volunteer boards. It’s a powerful legacy, showing that small, consistent acts of care and generosity can add up to big impacts.
